I noticed this black one(born last spring) in my front yard turned reddish during the winter.Do black squirrels turn chocolate/reddish as they grow older?
It might have been that it was a red squirrel that was born black - that happens fairly frequently in the animal kingdom, that a critter is born one color but grows up to be another.
That being said, I don't know for sure.
